Benjamin Howard, DDS, joined the Center for Facial Surgery & Dental Implantology in July 2012. After growing up in Indianapolis, Indiana, Dr. Howard attended Indiana University, graduating with honors and a bachelor’s degree in biology in 2002. He attended dental school at the University of Colorado, where he graduated (Magna Cum Laude) in 2008. During dental school, Dr. Howard was honored with a number of awards including the Lawrence Meskin Award, which is granted annually to one senior student who consistently demonstrates outstanding professional and clinical excellence. Dr. Howard completed his four-year residency in Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery at Loyola University Medical Center in 2012.
Throughout this time, Dr. Howard was trained in full-scope oral and maxillofacial surgery. This includes office-based procedures such as removal and treatment of impacted teeth, placement of dental implants, minor and complex bone grafting, and a variety of hard and soft tissue procedures aimed at augmenting structures in the oral cavity.
Dr. Howard also has extensive experience in the diagnosis and treatment of complex craniofacial deformities and anomalies (orthognathic surgery), management of orofacial pathology, diagnosis and treatment of temporomandibular joint disorders and facial trauma. Dr. Howard has extensive training and experience in anesthesia allowing him to offer patients a wide range of sedation and general anesthetic options. Dr. Howard completed rotations in general and pediatric anesthesia, plastic surgery, otolaryngology, intensive care, general surgery, and general medicine. Dr. Howard is currently an active board candidate with the American Board of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (ABOMS). He maintains certifications in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS), Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS), and Basic Life Support (BLS) for which he is also an accredited instructor. He is a member of the American Association of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (AAOMS), the Illinois Society of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery (ILOMS), the American College of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons (ACOMS), and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology (ADSA). Dr. Howard maintains hospital privileges at Advocate Condell Medical Center and Northwestern Lake Forest Hospital.
Dr. Howard currently resides in Glenview, IL with his wonderful wife Michele. In his free time, he enjoys working out, running, taking part in a number of outdoor activities, traveling, and spending time with friends and family.
