Oral and maxillofacial surgery requires additional years of hospital-based surgical and anesthesia training after graduation from dental school. As oral and maxillofacial surgeons, we manage a wide variety of problems relating to the mouth, teeth, and facial regions. We practice a full scope of oral and maxillofacial surgery with expertise ranging from dental implant surgery and wisdom tooth removal to corrective jaw surgery. This also includes techniques designed to rebuild bone structure with minimal surgical intervention and optimal patient comfort. We can also diagnose and treat facial pain, facial injuries, and fractures.

Our staff is trained in assisting with Intravenous (IV) sedation or outpatient general anesthesia in our state-of-the-art office setting. Patients are continuously monitored during and after surgery.

“Dr. Abel was awesome. I just got my wisdom teeth pulled after avoiding it for 30 years or so. He was very professional and explained how it was going to go and what to expect in recovery. I am not the biggest fan of dentists, but I would have done it much sooner if I knew how well it would go. I would highly recommend Dr Abel!!!!” – Tim M. in Silver Spring, MD

“I cannot speak highly enough about this practice. Dr. Abel is wonderful and turned a possibly scary tooth extraction for a ten year into a breeze. His support staff is also terrific, the assistants soothed my daughter every step of the way, SO KIND. It was very reassuring to a mom who was trying to anticipate how this would go. It was over so fast, and my daughter had not a glimmer of trauma thanks to the kindness of everyone at this practice. They are amazing with kids!!” – Jessica S. in Washington, DC

“Dr. Abel and his staff was great! for someone like me that is very afraid of the dentist they were most comforting. I would highly recommend!” – Ira L. in Chevy Chase, MD

“Dr Abel and his staff were excellent.  The attention to detail and their sincerity about the outcome of my procedure was obvious from both Dr. Abel and his assistants. Having worked in the medical field for some time I have high expectations I can honestly say Dr. Abel and his team far exceeded those. I would recommend Bethesda Chevy Chase Oral Surgery to my family or friends without any hesitation.” – Dan S. in Rockville, MD

“Dr. Abel did an amazing job. He checked in on me several times after my surgery and answered all my questions. I was back to eating solid foods with no pain only 36 hours after getting my wisdom teeth out. Side note, he has a great sense of humor!” – Bobby B. in Bethesda, MD

“Unbelievably fast, smooth, and pleasant process. Dr. Abel removed my four molars in under 20 minutes (literally), and (though this will probably vary from person to person) I was pretty much fully functional and comfortable immediately. His staff are also great. They were kind and comforted me (little things like holding my shoulder) throughout the whole process. Dr. Abel is a gem– incredibly talented and professional, responsive, good bedside manner, and even humorous! Thanks to the whole team.” – Erica G. in Rockville, MD

“I went to Dr. Abel to have a wisdom tooth extraction and it was such a good experience. I am happy I chose him to do it. I was in no pain afterward and within one week I was almost fully healed. I will definitely recommend him to my friends and neighbors.” – Millie in Rockville, MD
